We recently had our annual trip down to London to 100% Optical, the UK trade fair for opticians.
As usual there was a lot of amazing new things to see; new technology, new imaging equipment, a lot of AI enhanced software and of course some of the best eyewear from all over the world.
One of our favourite eyewear brands is Morel. We love the design and the quality, after all they have been producing frames since 1880. That's all they do - they make spectacle frames. They don't make anything else, only glasses.
They have been doing it for a long time and they are very good at it. They still manufacture in France in the Jura region.
What is really amazing is they are still a family run operation in the forth generation. And what was really cool is that we got to meet Arthur Morel, who is the next (5th) generation of the family. (He's very tall and makes me look short!)
I had a really good talk with him about eyewear, the materials, colour and style. It's great to see that the passion for eyewear is still going strong in his family even after 145 years!
Now I have to tell you about a very cool touch that is on Morel frames. Every temple tip has 5 lines across, but only the 4th line is coloured representing the current 4th generation. The 5th line is ready for Arthurs generation and the colour will move from line 4 to 5 when the baton is passed down to them.

It was a real pleasure to meet him and talk about our shared eyewear passion. Morel will be in safe hands when the time comes.
