Click each header to find videos, explanations and downloads to help you find out what you want to know.  If you do have any other questions or queries then please do get in touch by giving us a call or sending us an email. Our numbers and address can be found here. To start with we have tried to help you out by complying a list of some of the most frequently asked questions.

This always depends on your individual requirements, so it’s hard to give an exact figure.

To give you some idea:

  • Our more exclusive frames are between £250 and £450.
  • Our Premium Single Vision reflection-free lenses start at £125, which include an 12 month scratch guarantee. Our very best Bespoke Single Vision lenses start from £375.
  • Our top of the range Bespoke Varifocals start at £500. Most clients opt for our award winning Arc Steady Varifocal which starts at £345 and also includes the 18 month scratch guarantee.

We do have lower priced options in both the frame and lens ranges, although we don’t do ‘basic’ glasses. We are always happy to discuss your options with you, to see if we are a good fit for you.

You can find out more about our pricing here.

Yes you can, we offer our eyewear style consultation to everyone, not just our current clients. We may ask you some qualifying questions to see if what you are looking for is something we can help with before we arrange an appointment for you. Find out more about how to choose the right glasses by downloading our free guide.

Yes you can.

We want to know all about your previous experience with varifocals, what exact problems you had, how long ago did you try them, and even how much you paid for them – not to be nosey – it can give us a very good idea of what the issues were and if we can fix them.

All of our varifocals are guaranteed for 30 days; if you can’t tolerate them we can swap them for a different type of lens correction and refund any price difference back to you.

To find out more about varifocals download our free guide to varifocal lenses from here or watch some of the varifocal videos below.

Yes we can.

We have access to the world’s thinnest plastic lenses from Tokai, which are made in Japan. For clients with higher prescriptions, we’ve had some fantastic results with these lenses.

There are always limitations on what we can do but we can guide you to what frame and lens combination will be best for you and your prescription. These amazing lenses also use the latest technology to give you the best vision all around compared to other lens designs.

At The Village Optician we go the extra mile to ensure you aren’t just happy with your new glasses but delighted with them.

We want to make sure the glasses you choose are right for you. That’s why we give all our customers a 60 day “Love Your Specs” comfort guarantee.

If, for any reason, you find that the fit of your frame is uncomfortable or you find discomfort with the lenses within 60 days of collecting your new glasses, and if we cannot improve the comfort for you,  you can choose an alternative frame and/or lenses that will be more comfortable.

Vision and Vision Problems

Ever wondered what your eyes do and how we "see"? Come and find out how they do it.

Why is it that some of us need glasses to see? What's happening in the eyes that makes us need glasses.

Short sightedness (Myopia) is a very common eye problem needing glasses to help to see the far distance. Strangely short sighted people can see up close with no glasses at all.

Astigmatism is one of the most misunderstood reasons for needing glasses. Symptoms of astigmatism can range from headaches to blurred vision up close and far away.

Ever wondered what is going on when you start to need reading glasses? Have your arms become too short!?

Long sightedness (Hyperopia) is another very common eye problem. Long sighted people tend to need glasses more for things closer to them than farther away, but why?

A very common myth is that wearing glasses can make your eyes get worse, this is because people haven't had any explanation as to why they need glasses and what to expect.

What exactly is a Lazy Eye? Why doesn't it see? And why am I told it looks perfectly healthy? What causes it to be "lazy"?

Clinical and Eye Conditions

Ever been asked if you would like your eye scanning? This could help you to decide.

What is Glaucoma? We've all heard of it but many are still unsure about exactly what it is. What happens to your vision and does it hurt? How can it be treated and can you go blind with it?

You may have been told you have cataracts, but what are cataracts? They aren't what most people think.

Ever been asked if you would like your eye scanning? This could help you to decide.

How do we actually test or check eyes for Glaucoma? Just about everyone who has had an eye examination knows about the "air puff test" but there is a lot more more to it than that.

Glasses and Spectacle Lenses

What are Varifocals? What do they actually do and how do they work?

Varifocals are great but what are the limitations of the vision in a varifocal?

What are the main problems you can get with varifocal glasses?

What are office/computer glasses and are they right for me?

We can now help to slow down the progression of short sight (myopia) in children.
